Bottom line, imho, whether we're talking about crime/violence/guns/drugs, or we're talking about education, healthcare or any other institution or systems, including politics, our values as a society are now FUBAR.

$$$ and power rule to the point we don't even recognize the insidious daily influence all around any longer.
