We're messy eaters and our crumbs attract their prey. Besides, they're one of the few critters out there that doesn't have to be trained to like us. Primates in zoos have long been noticed to attract and adopt feral cats.
KoKo will be a good kitty mom. The kittens looked completely comfortable with her.

Gorillas are primarily vegetarian, and insects & caterpillars are about all the "meat" they eat.
