7. Now, the problem: nobody wants the job

It would be like the GOP Speaker search all over again, and while they could conceivably outsource that to a reality show competition (which Fox News will be in all but name), we can't. On the other hand, the chaos right now in the GOP does give us some cover to do some shuffling, so if we're going to move it needs to be now, like literally this week. And there needs to be a "blessed" candidate in the wings, which I think is the big problem. I have never been for pre-selecting Presidential or even Congressional candidates by the party machine, but the party chairperson is kind of exactly who does need that kind of selection.
