(18,318 posts)...and in many ways, this might be happening, but the GOPers have the resources, power and money to put the FR into a new party, or make the present GOP its permanent home (the FR is mostly there already).
What is Not spoken of is the self-destruction of the Democratic Party along this same time frame. I see Bernie as the last train out for rather standard progressive politics and liberal philosophy. The Party is quite capable of crushing anyone to the left of Carter with what is left of its operational bureaus, and they are banking on a patched up "coalition" of fading identity groups, corporate finance, Beltway bureaucrats, the tattered MSM, and corp. power in general. It can't sustain this. There is no passion, or reason to fight when ideology or even a governing philosophy is thrown over board in favor of the "jargon jive," like "all the stakeholders reaching a win-win so we can move forward." Yet that is the popcorn fart the Party is relying on to stir folks to action.
The FR CAN and DOES rely on passion, self-righteousness, and goals marked by brevity and clarity. It has a significantly better chance of surviving self-destruction than the Democratic Party no matter who wins next year.
