In 1963 New Orleans, George Joannides was paymaster, at least, of the fanatical anti-Castro group, DRE. One of its members, Dr. Carlos Bringuier, got in a famous public confrontation with the president of the New Orleans chapter of the pro-Castro group Fair Play for Cuba Committee, Lee Harvey Oswald.

In 1979 Washington DC, George Joannides became the second CIA liaison to the House Select Committee on Assassinations. There he managed to slow-walk every file requested, denied investigators access to files that Congress had requested, as well as made it near impossible for the HSCA investigation to proceed. Of course, CIA never mentioned to HSCA that Mr. Joannides had also been part of the very subject area they were investigating, Oswald in New Orleans.
