It sure didn't help in Massachusetts in 2010.

The base is already fired up in Wisconsin. The segment of the electorate that probably needs cajoling is that so-called "independent" vote, and injecting presidential politics into a state's gubernatorial race might just well alienate many of them.

I think all this call for Obama to speak out (I get emails from him daily lately asking me to contribute to GOTV in Wisconsin and to support Barrett) is just a way of having someone to blame if (I say "if" not "when," but I'm afraid that is possibly so) things don't work out for the Democrats. I think it's about looking for a fall guy. And he will be the fall guy whether he goes there or not. Because nobody wants to believe that they can loose an election; it's nice to have someone else to pin it on.

I think if Walker survives, it's going to be because people were uncomfortable with the idea of recalls in general, not because this is a measure of public sentiment about one candidate or another.
