so there's dissension in the people they put in congress and state houses.
The GOP establishment can't control the ReThugs (who so dishonestly call themselves "the freedom caucus"
because they are all supported by wealthy families who will continue them in Congress as long as they continue to please. (Their big donors, of course, not the "constituents" they so loudly claim to serve.)
At the same time, the GOP establishment members are also supported by big money men.
I'm GUESSING the GOP would only "implode" if that's what some of the libertarian billionaires wanted as they determine to finish destroying most of our federal government regulations and programs. Otherwise, they'll probably all start playing nicer with each other.
Of course, there are the GOP voters who finally realize they've been screwed over but are too in the habit of blaming the left for everything to mount a genuine rebellion, and also too conforming and too dependent on an authority to direct them. A lot of moderate conservatives HAVE already left the party, but IMO the ones who remain will fall in line, with a hefty Fox/right-wing media assist as needed, because their views have become just too warped to allow them to face new realities.
ITM, we can at least enjoy, and hopefully benefit from the acting out of the TP/Base. They're making as stupid a statement as one might expect of them -- resentfully doubling down on their GIGO voting pattern by supporting Trump and Carson -- which is about as far from their usual authoritarian obedience as those barn-burners seem to be able to manage. But they're not going anywhere either because no one would follow them, and they like to hide their less respectable behaviors in a forest of other conservatives.
At least this's all causing some grief at home. A few billionaires may even lose some of the chump change they're investing again.
My take anyway...
