I was in NYC visiting my cousin and her husband, who are both Jewish, and they invited me to one of two Kosher restaurants; one served meat, and one served dairy products. I ended up going to the one that served meat--it was a very nice restaurant and the food was delicious, although WAY meatier than what I'm used to eating--but I had no idea how strictly the prohibitions on milk and meat in the same meal were followed: we dipped our bread in olive oil, rather than butter, and the ice cream we had for dessert was non-dairy (as I said, it was all really good). It was a really fun and eye-opening experience, and overall it was probably one of my favorite Christmas Eves I've ever spent.
