Michael Moore is not necessarily some liberal icon whose motives are above questioning.

While he seems to be on the correct side of most issues, he is definitely prone to an unseemly degree of self promotion and this seems to be an opportunity for him to keep his name in the news.

Particularly since he knows he will most likely not be called upon to make good on his offer.
