Trump is dangerous. Cruz is more dangerous. [View all]

I don't believe that there are enough crazy and/or ignorant people in America to get Trump to the White House.

But I do believe their are enough to get Ted Cruz there. A coalition of hard-core "Christians," together with "know-nothings" and those who would never vote for anyone other than a Republican, might comprise a bloc of voters just large enough to let Cruz slip in.

The only difference between Trump and Cruz is that Cruz is more familiar with electoral politics. He knows how to agree with Trump's poison without appearing to be totally bonkers. He knows how to use dog whistles while appearing to keep his skirts clean. The only thing he doesn't know is how to recruit allies in the U.S. Senate. He's the most hated man there. He's one mean-spirited, unlikable son-of-a-bitch. But so was Richard Nixon and that didn't stop him from reaching the Oval Office.

And even if Cruz doesn't quite make it, there's still bad news just behind him: Marco Rubio. This guy is another "not ready for prime time candidate" who stands to inherit the GOP mantle if or when Trump/Cruz fail. Both of them make Rubio seem like a reasonable alternative. He's not. He's a somewhat unseasoned political dwarf who can easily be led by any "experts" he surrounds himself with.

And let's not forget Jeb! Or rather, perhaps we should just forget Jeb!, the Fredo of the Bush family.

I guess the bottom line is that, after our endless war here on DU ends, and either Bernie or Hillary is our candidate, we must win the upcoming election. The alternative is unthinkable. Republicans will be out there voting in huge numbers. We must do the same.
