The Cuban Missile Crisis was staring into the abyss. This is a three-day hike, four bridges, an interstate freeway, and two bus stops from the abyss.

Irrational soothsaying really does tend to make one look like a religious madman... the Broadway Avenue Prophet wearing sandwich boards proclaiming "then end is nigh! Fire! Fear! Flood! Famine! Have they no humanity at all?"
