16. This may be controversial, but I consider Deal to be something of a victim.

Not in an exculpatory way, mind you (he richly deserves to be wearing an orange jumpsuit for the rest of his life)...but in the sense of being manipulated into committing an atrocious act. It's pretty obvious Deal has some mental health issues, and I don't think it's going too far out on a limb to assume they compromise his decision-making. They make someone like him susceptible to emotional influence, and the anti-PP crowd trowel on the appeals-to-emotion plenty thick. As a species, we react to phrases like "baby killers" very strongly, for obvious species survival/evolutionary reasons. Hell, I react to that stuff...and I can't stand being around babies.

"Stochastic terrorism" is much more than just the latest buzzword. It's a very real thing, and the people killed by it aren't its only victims.
