I guess it all depends on who you talk to.

I recall his divorce when he revealed that he really didn't have any money, that any finances he has are leveraged to the hilt. At the time I assumed it was a tactic to keep his wife out of a settlement, but now I wonder. I think it's possible the man has more media savvy than actual business acumen. His brand may be like FaceBook, a lot of hype with few material assets. Certainly the judge in his divorce agreed.

In that regard I suppose he is a "very smart man", but it also means he's a huckster not to be trusted. If Trump is on the campaign trail with Romney, it's not because he wants to help Mitt. It's all about promoting The Donald.

If Trump didn't make comments about the birth certificate, his presence be a mere side note in the campaign. I don't believe he's even serious about the birther issue. Indeed, "don't believe" and "Trump" go together very well, and always have.

Romney should have two words for his campaign strategist: "You're fired".
