The 22-year-old woman, who was nine months pregnant, gave birth around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, about 12 hours after going into labor, said Louis Galasso, deputy police commissioner in Warren, Mich. She was being treated for burns to her back, torso and face at a Detroit hospital after the horrific attack early Saturday.
According to Galasso, hospital staff have not disclosed the condition of the mother or child.
She was in stable condition Sunday and police Sunday said that an ultrasound performed after the attack showed that the fetus appeared to be fine.
Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith is considering whether to charge the baby's father and a man who was living with him with causing harm to a fetus, Galasso said.
