They are a reality here in Houston and have been for some time. They happen from inner city on up to the hoity toity Woodlands and beyond. In fact, convenience store owners are the only people who really make sense for gun ownership here in Houston. I'd love the rest to be taken away.
Here's your article, but it isn't about "a" it's about an epidemic:

Our police response often sucks. I worked at a convenience store, right here at the front of my middle class neighborhood (you have to see Houston zoning to believe it). I took the job because I could walk and it was a great way to meet my neighbors. I quit after the third armed robbery. I was luckily never there because I only worked 5-10 hours/week (I write and edit for a living).
That said, my husband collected WWII rifles and had a pistol that belonged to his father. He hunted with either a 22 or a .308. I had the guns taken out of my house two days after he killed himself. But that is my story. Yours is yours. And there are several in between. I fully support banning the sale of automatic weaponry to any Joe on the street. I fully support people owning a handgun or a hunting rifle or even a historic collection, even as I hope they don't have a really bad day.
