Just illustrating the connection between an island that can excersize strict control on who or what can enter its borders versus the US that has basically no control over its southern border. You stand a good chance in the US being injured or killed by either the drug cartels gangs and dealers or by the users of their product as they rob, burglarize, mug and invade homes in their quest for money or loot to finance their drug habits that keep the cartels in business. As stated, the best control is the ability to eliminate all unwanted movement across your border. A few thousand miles of water surrounding your home is a great deterrent.
