35. Texas fought for "independence" from Mexico

when Mexico abolished slavery.. Texas is the only state that seceded from two different countries over the abolition of slavery. Texas was a failed republic and joined the union deeply in debt, bailed out by the good people of the USA.

Like everywhere in America, there are wonderful Texans, but the loudmouth, blowhard, racist and ridiculous fools that speak for Texas, I'm talking Louie Gohmert, Ted Cruz, and scores of others who make us cringe and want to detest all Texans and Texas.

Here's who I prefer to associate with Texas; Barbara Jordan, Molly Ivins, Jim Hightower, Ann Richards, LBJ, Willie Nelson, etc., etc., and all the good Texans who grace this board with their wit and wisdom.
