In reply to the discussion: Jews gather nationwide on Chanukah to challenge Islamophobia and racism [View all]politicman
(710 posts)Look hate crimes are against the law, Jewish people in the U.S may be victims of these hate crimes but they are crimes for a reason, because we have laws against it.
An individual committing a crime against a Jewish person or any other person for that matter is taking a risk that they will be caught and punished, and because we can never get rid of crime then these things will continue on a individual basis no matter how much we speak out against them.
Whereas Muslims are being demonised on a national scale, from talk back radio to commentators, all the way to presidential hopefuls who hope to ride the anti-Muslim sentiment all the way to the White House.
Can you even for a second imagine a national commentator or politician, let alone a presidential hopeful advocating anti-semitism on a national scale? No one can because it will just simply never be allowed and we all know why.
Yet every other minority has at one time or another in the last 50 years been demonised on a national scale, African Americans, Hispanics, LGBT people, Asians, native Americans, even people of Christian faith are mocked, and the latest target is Muslims.
But not once in the last 50 years have I seen a major politician advocate against Jewish people and still remain relevant the way that anyone politician who advocated against other minorities has remained relevant.
