(24,183 posts)22. A few of us.
A paternal great grandfather was in the Union army. I have several letters he wrote to his mother while serving, a couple of which mention battles and seeing "the Rebs" across the fields.
My dad and his brother in the Army and Navy respectively during WWII.
My husband - AF Academy grad (class of 68) and 20+ year career as a pilot.
Me, too - 4 years active duty as a pediatric nurse practitioner in the AF nurse corps, and 8 years in the reserves.
My husband's son and his daughter-in-law. Both AF lieutenant colonels. He's a cop, she's a nurse. She outranks him by a few months.
An uncle by marriage to an aunt from my mom's side - career army officer/ buried in Arlington.

My great grandfather was of the age to fall between WWI and WWII. Never served.
