(19,459 posts)33. My maternal side of the family has been here since the 1750's.
There were supposedly male relatives who served during the Seven Years War, the Revolution, and War of 1812. The Revolution is the only conflict of that set for which we have any real proof.
As a detour, my dads side had a relative (GGGGG Grandfather who was with Wellington's army at Waterloo.
Had a father/son combo (my GGG and GG Grandfathers) who enlisted in a Minnesota infantry regiment during the winter of 1861/62; the father was wounded and disabled at Vicksburg in 1863, the son served through the end.
Don't know about the Spanish-American War, but represented in WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and Cold War (me).
All men, no women served.
EDIT: My wife's aunt served as a WAC in WWII. So, at least one woman wore the uniform.

My great grandfather was of the age to fall between WWI and WWII. Never served.
