Because, as you say, it's small potatoes compared to other issues. It's the sheer, unabashed, "I'm being an asshole here and I don't care if it pisses you off" attitude that makes it so egregious. I just don't have any room in my life for such people and if you (not you OP) ARE that kind of person you make the world a shittier place by existing.
