In reply to the discussion: I have a Missouri driver's license and no passport [View all]dixiegrrrrl
(60,157 posts)13. Sometime next year you will need "enhanced" drivre's licenses
Enhanced drivers licenses make it easier for U.S. citizens to cross the border into the United States because they include
a vicinity Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chip that will signal a secure system to pull up your biographic and biometric data for the CBP officer as you approach the border inspection booth, and
a Machine Readable Zone (MRZ) or barcode that the CBP officer can read electronically if RFID isn't available.

TPTB have been testing out biometric data use since Iraq invasion, on the Iraqis and I think on Afghanistan people, and, as predicted, they are bringing that tracking ability home to us.
It is all a bit creepy for those of us born before 1990, who grew up with OUR Gov. condemning the way "communist" governments tracked and listed their citizens.
Ever see what information they want for you to get a passport?
