16. I have left the U.S.

I haven't had a passport in almost 20 years. I wasn't traveling for a few years and then after the birth of my child I haven't had the chance to travel, even if I could afford it. In order to get a passport for my child I either need permission from my ex (her father) or I have to go in front of a judge and ask for permission, just to get the passport. As of this time it's been far too much hassle.

In 2 1/2 years my kid will be 18 and we will no longer need permission from her father or a judge. At that time we'll both get our passports together and plan a trip outside of the U.S. It's just easier that way.
