7. The move against unregulated private sales isn't INTENDED to combat mass shootings.

It's intended to address the (exponentially more numerous) shootings by ordinary criminals. That is, in my view, vastly more important, for the simple reason that far, far more people die from the latter. It would be less political theater than something entirely devoted to mass shootings, I'd say.
