million who are asylum seekers which is a somewhat different status. Right now there are over 10 million persons who are in sustained refugee situations as defined by the UN, that means groups of 25,000 or more fleeing a place for a consecutive 5 year period. They are located in 31 different countries.

What these harsh facts mean is that every person allowed in takes a place that many others could have and in 10 million cases, others who have been in camps for 5 years and more waiting for a home to go to. So if you make allowances in order to let people of bad intention come live in your country, you are also choosing the bad intentions over some brilliant minds and good hearts, people with children and ideas living in camps for years and years, children born and raised in camps.

Because there are many millions of refugees, all responses involve some form of triage, selection of priority persons. That process should not be random, nor based on physical strength, and much care should be taken to first serve those who most need protections, to do otherwise is a dereliction of duty to these people.
