(1,958 posts)(It's not my DU name.) In fact, if I were to Google my last name, I know every single person who shows up in the results. (Well, I guess I have not yet met the wife of a first cousin's son. They live in Florida.)
My family is not wealthy. About 20 years ago my dad and his brother went to see relatives in the 'old country' (USSR). My uncle was wealthy, but he died not long after that trip. My dad was then seen as the wealthy American relative who could help solve their financial problems. He got letters (they had to be translated) "my wife is ill, please send medicine"
.
We are in contact with two second cousins. They do not ask us for money, but word would get out about money like this. I wonder, how much could we help them without ruining them and their lives?
I know, this is getting heavy. I'm not going to even buy a Powerball ticket. I have family members who I am sure are buying
tickets. Maybe they will share.
