They'll have a meeting as long as someone else furnishes the space, the electricity, the sound system, the bathrooms, and so forth, for nothing.

As for the weird timeline, yes, the Bundys had some initial support in the community, but their antics and ever-changing rationales for their occupation have turned off a lot of that support. Remember when this whole thing was about a protest against mandatory minimum sentences? Yeah, nobody else does either.
