(16,439 posts)They probably feel they would be letting people down if they just "up and quit." Most people see their retirement coming on the horizon (unless they have to retire due to illness), and have time to plan what they will do with their time to give themselves a sense of purpose. These two are probably still in a state of shock and can't really understand how nearly limitless their options are. I think it was a huge mistake to go on national television and won't be surprised if they regret it in the future. They may also underestimate the irrational resentment some people in their community may have toward them as a result of their incredibly good fortune. They seem like nice people and I hope this doesn't end up making their lives unpleasant in unforeseen ways. I am glad to see they will be sharing some of their wealth with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, which does wonderful work.
