I have read that it takes a couple of weeks before the check is actually deposited when there is a huge jackpot (those giant-sized "checks" at the lottery office are just for show). Once the check was in the bank, I would wind down my current professional obligations on an ostensibly "leave of absence" basis and with ample notice and a plausible cover story. I actually like what I do for work and might want to go back to it in some capacity despite being a gazillionaire, but it would be great to have some time off to travel while I still can, read, relax, watch all the movies I didn't have time to see over the past few years, do some creative hobbies I have had to put on hold for too long, etc.etc. Hmmm, that sounds so good, maybe I wouldn't go back to work after all....but I wouldn't want to burn my bridges. With the kind of money in the recent jackpot, I would put much of it in a charitable trust and spend a lot of time researching where best to spend it.
