As well as money, which seems something almost every American, even the most hip, more-clever-than-thou skeptic seems to place great reliance on and faith in; even if it is a made-up fantasy...

Hence, some made-up fantasies are more rational to believe in, and thus exempt from the clever appellation of 'magic thinking,' but I suppose which is which is anyone's guess.
