(1,232 posts)although their ignorance and disregard for the historical significance is troubling but not surprising in their willful denial of the rule of law.
What strikes me most ironic though, is that they claim "We also recognize that the Native Americans had the claim to the land, but they lost that claim," clearly oblivious to the fact that he and his band of hoodlums lost their claim to the land too and a lot more recently.
The prosecution of these thugs under the various protections acts will only further bankrupt and add more jail time to the long, long sentences these guys are racking up. While it won't undo the damage, it continues to build the cases against them.
Seems to me it would be a marvelous thing to ultimately return the lands to the control of the various Native Americans factions, which would further stymie any additional actions by these land resource thieves.
I would love to see more active statements coming from the various Native American factions and it's a shame they aren't using this scenario to draw attention to their historical preservation issues, for benefit of course. But then, Americans aren't real big on cultural and historical preservation I guess.
