He could have been as famous as Toshiro Mifune but he didn't get along with Akira Kurosawa and walked off the movie Set. Mifune has appeared in one Zatoichi film as Katsu has appeared with Mifune in another Period piece. Tomisaburo Wakayama is Shintaro Katsu's brother and often directed many of the Zatoichi movies. Tomisaburo Wakayama also appeared in many of his own movies...playing Ogami Itto, the scowling, 19th century ronin warrior in the six Lone Wolf and Cub samurai movies. You can find these on Youtube also with english subtitles...
