next to a huge pile of snow that had been removed from the streets by the plows - the Sanitation Dept. has a routine whereby they first deposit the snow into piles along the way then they move in mobile melters and dump the snow into it and the water gets sent into the river. I erroneously like to think everything originates in NYC but this contraption comes from Canada. It's a brilliant idea:
