... Randall wrote the poem "Maryland, My Maryland" ... The opening line .. refers to .. Abraham Lincoln as a "despot," and later calls Northern troops "scum" ... Miller .. wants to keep some of the original lyrics ... Sen. Ron Young .. would keep just that stanza .. and add another from an alternate and much less controversial version of the poem ... Sen. Cheryl Kagan ... wants to have a contest to choose a new song ... Gov. Larry Hogan ... said he did not support changes to state symbols with ties to the Confederacy or slavery, calling the movement to do that "political correctness run amok" ...
