He campaigned against mandates, and then instituted them.
He campaigned on closing Gitmo, only to find out he just wanted to move it.
He campaigned on ending the war in Afghanistan, and then tripled the number of troops. And he'll still be there at the end of his second term. (They're still dying there by the by).
He campaigned on ending Iraq, and then changed absolutely nothing about the SOFA of the previous administration.
He campaigned against torture, and then changed no law, prosecuted no person, and classified the photos.

Basically my "objective standard" is doing what he said he would do, without extensive parsing of his words. Alternately, there is a strong current of "if he does it, it must be right", or "it's good enough" that runs through here. One can be both glad it wasn't the GOP and be sad at his failures.
