Probably like when Cheney shot his companion. The birds were raised in captivity, therefore fairly tame and slow. Then they release about 1,000 in front of the guy who is using a shotgun. A hit should have been a sure thing, it was turned out. At lest the birds made it out unharmed and didn't have to apologize.
