Human history cannot be ripped from its cultural history. As a lifelong atheist, I often embrace such allusions. So I do not see them as a negative anymore than any other allusion to literature.

It makes for good argument, and colorful reflection. I would no more condemn it than Shakespearian allusion, and there is an awful lot of that as well.
