47. Very different cultures -

I grew up in the midwest where being Lutheran or Methodist was standard fare (and the Methodists sometimes looked down on for dancing, etc). Smaller amounts of other protestant churches. Actually quite a few Catholics as well with Polish immigrants etc. I wasn't born until the mid 60's so I certainly didn't see the worst of it. But it was pretty standard for folks to make stereotypical statements such as "The Jews, you know, they blah blah blah" - they would make these assertions in conversation as if to impart known information and it was only natural to stereotype entire groups of people. Of course in this day and age we may feel more superior but we can see with the racism towards Obama and especially the Trump candidacy that it really is not far under the surface at all.
