with the parent. Normal parents run into fires to save their children. Normal relatives and neighbors grieve that they cannot give their own lives to bring a child back.

Our nation's refusal to acknowledge how common both mental illnesses and personality debilities are is evidence of how much callous ideology masquerading as "personal responsibility" has infected our thinking.
