(1,508 posts)I often talk to conservatives, some of which I consider friends. They are republicans the majority of them, but lately some have started saying they are independents. I often ask them what it is about the republican party they find appealing. They begin by telling what they don't like, you know..they aren't too much in favor of their hard stance on Social Issues, but because they are Christians they feel they have to adhere to those sentiments. When it comes to racism, they say, oh, well you know I'm not racist, however I do know there are some racist in the party. I can't do anything about that.
I ask them every time, how is it that you feel you can stick with the party knowing what the party platform is and how it hurts the country. I look at it this way, even if you do agree with some of their social positions because you believe as a Christian that is what you should do, how can you justify their equal rights record. How can you justify the fact that they are owned by the fossil fuel industry, how do you allow them to deny climate change when you know for a fact science has proven and continues to prove climate change is real and is occurring. How can you adhere to their policies period and call yourself a Christian. Didn't Jesus, the person you are following ask those that were preparing to stone a woman for what they perceived to be her sins to do so, but before beginning allow the person without sin to cast the first stone.
How can you who is riddled with sin pass judgement on others through the efforts of your party and say you don't agree with that but you continue to vote for them. Could it be that you do agree, but know that it is wrong? Could it be that because you feel their policies aren't harming you it is okay to allow them to implement policies that harm others. Isn't that called aiding and abetting? Again, tell me why are you a republican and why do you continue to vote so they can implement the harmful policies they implement. The conversation of course ends abruptly because they don't have an answer. I often wonder why people don't think before they enter the voting booth, or select a party to support. I wonder why they never think of others only themselves when they are making these decisions, and because they don't think of others, I wonder if they can truly call themselves Christians. Sorry for the
