GOP Race-baiting? [View all]

I just shot of an Email to Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (D - IL 17)...

Republican Congressman Ken Buck (R - CO 4) has introduced a bill that would make the deliberate targeting of law enforcement agents a hate crime.

While the idea seems at first commendable, and in most respects is quite laudable, the bill won't find much traction within the ranks of the Republican caucus who oppose hate crimes legislation in the first place, and - because of the bill's title - appears to be little more than a race-baiting stunt directed at the ‪#‎BlackLivesMatter‬ protest group.

The right-wing logic?

"As Republicans, we don't *really* think that Black lives matter, but we're not gonna come right out and say it. Instead we're gonna slap the #blacklivesmatter protest group and one up those negroes by proposing a ‪#‎Whitecopslivesmattermore‬ Bill."

Well, there's a sure-fire way to find out if the Congressman is most sincere in his attempt to broaden hate crimes legislation in America, or not: My suggestion is that we rename this proposed legislation the Lavoy Finicum/BlueLivesMatter Act. Lavoy Finicum was the armed militant who seditiously attempted to claim Oregon's Malheur Wildlife Reserve as his own - and died as a consequence when he pulled out a firearm as law enforcement agents tried to take him into custody.

If Rep. Buck is sincere about his bill, an amendment to change the bill's name shouldn't deter him from trying to get it passed. If he is, however, race-baiting, he'll fight a name-change tooth-and-nail.

You should ALL do the same with your local Democratic Representatives.
