Seemed his race at the onset was an ideological one to inflict socialist ideas into the Democratic Party and tilt it a little more left. He was probably surprised to find that there was a significant segment of the population that were on board.
And he's accomplished this much, push the Democratic Party further left of center and put the Republicans on notice, that hard right conservatism is on its death bed and they can't ignore it anymore and will have to move to the center, even if it means they have to abandon the hard right and let them regulate themselves to an irrelevant third party status, much like Ross Perot did.
