1. Republican voters have always gravitated to candidates who mimic their own shortcomings.

You can't embarrass, shame or ridicule a Republican voter. The GOP base doesn't care if a bunch of leftists or the despised media calls them racists, bigots, or xenophobes, in fact those sobriquets are embraced as a badge of honor. Understand; this isn't a problem for them. They adore loud, ostentatious showmen like Trump, just as they did with all the other swaggering, tough-talking, grandstanding, Hollywood-esque play-actors that came before him.
