(56,117 posts)if we dug into the ancestry of any old candidate and picked a name just to make fun of them, especially if leaning on the stigma of any particular national origin, then yes, i'd agree with you.
but in this case, we started calling him "drumpf" only after he strongly established his own xenophobia and bigotry towards people of certain heritages that he apparently deems un-american. in fact, i believe john oliver, who brought us this bit of trivia, said trump at some point had criticized another for having changed their name to make it sound more american.
it's not to make a mockery of the fact that his heritage is german. it's to make a mockery of the fact that his heritage also lies outside the united states.
it points out his hypocrisy, not his particular national ancestry.
personally i'm all for calling him "drumpf".
