Each state gets to decide their own voting laws. The Republicans have steadily taken over most of the country, state by state.

We pay too much attention to the presidency and not nearly enough to our states - the governors, state legislators, and members of Congress who actually determine most of our day-to-day lives with the laws they pass and the policies they enact.
