The asshole who proposed this is state senator Mark Obenshain, Republican.

He proposed legislation that would require anyone having knowledge of a woman having a miscarriage to report the miscarriage to local law enforcement along with details such as her name, address, date/time of miscarriage, location of the "product of the miscarriage," etc., etc.

He withdrew the bill after he was attacked in every state newspaper and his office was swamped with phone calls, letters, faxes, and angry visitors.

I'm an EMT with a rural volunteer rescue squad. Several of us signed and faxed a letter to him telling him, if his proposal became law, we would refuse to obey -- his proposal included language requiring "medical personnel" to report miscarriages to local law enforcement.

He ran for Virginia Attorney General in 2013. The results were so close the election went to a recount; he lost to our current AG, Mark Herring, by fewer than 1,000 votes statewide.
