We had a spoiler in each of the last 2 elections. I personally voted for the non-teabagger candidate most likely to win. Unfortunately, the 1st time around the official Dem candidate trailed with only 20% in the polls right up to the end, but wouldn't quit. Had she dropped out, the former Dem turned Indie would have won.
Instead it was LePage 38%
Indie Whatzisname 37%
Official Dem 20%
4 or 5 other indies 5%
Same thing happened the last election, except this time it was LePage 38%, Michaud 37%, and Indie Whatzisname 20or so %
I also have read that there was a lot of outside money (ie Koch) involved. Listening to the radio there were at least 3 LePage ads for every 1 Michaud.
