range from merely disapproving to intensely hostile toward people who are different from them -- liberals, blacks, people who eat raw fish or tear up their lawn to plant natives. You name the difference, these are the world's first-class troublemakers.

But traditional and economic conservatives, though definitely preferring conforming society made up of people like them, mostly stay in the low range of suspicion and disapproval of people who are different and their problem is usually overcome by merely becoming better acquainted.

These days most conservatives reportedly feel more negatively toward liberals -- and feel freer to discriminate against liberals -- than they do blacks.

That still leaves the bigoted social and/or religious conservatives, but don't go blaming them all unless the goal is to empower the nasties from a minority to a majority.
