and he turned out to be a cutie, even if the leftover skin probably makes him a low rider.

Weight creeps up on animals and a sick owner wouldn't notice it, he'd just struggle to feed his best buddy every day.

I had a cat who was a few pounds overweight and had to put her on a diet and if you've ever put a cat on a diet you know you are living with a very loudly unhappy cat. I don't imagine dogs are quite as unpleasant, but that also likely contributed to his weight.
