Male and female of different ethnicities, body types and professions. It was a "cheat" code, but the player was able to choose at will.

The randomizer doesn't bother me in the slightest, as long as gameplay isn't adversely affected. Heck, I could even see an interesting effect whereby a tall, hugely muscled character doesn't (for instance) fit in an aircraft's cockpit as readily as a smaller character.
